Editorial Policy
CaptainDad exists to help parents make faster, smarter decisions. That only works if the recommendations stay useful, honest, and readable.
What We Optimize For
- Fast answers before long explanations.
- Clear verdicts instead of vague “maybe” filler.
- Recommendations that solve real parent problems, not just high-commission categories.
- Pages that are updated when products, pricing, or better options change.
How A Decision Page Gets Published
- We identify a real decision parents are making.
- We compare the common options and the actual tradeoffs.
- We write a verdict, best-fit guidance, and recommended picks where relevant.
- We review for clarity, accuracy, and whether the page is genuinely helpful.
What the research labels mean
Researched means source-based homework, not hands-on use. Tested requires documented first-hand use. Expert checked requires review by an identified qualified person. Crew pick requires attributable reader or contributor input. A label is not a substitute for explaining the evidence.
Unless explicitly marked hands-on tested, a guide is not a claim of first-hand product testing. Confirm current prices, exact models, and availability with the retailer before buying.
AI, sources, and original voices
AI may help organize ideas or drafts. It may not invent testing, personal experiences, interviews, expert review, or quotations. Original sources and human judgment remain necessary. The Briefing links to sources and uses brief original summaries, not copied articles. Weather and sale claims require location, date, and source checks.
Generated coastal and workshop artwork establishes the mood of the site. It is not a record of a trip, a real contributor, a product, or a test. Real product photography must have verified usage rights.
How We Handle Affiliate Links
Some pages include affiliate links, but affiliate relationships do not decide the verdict. If the better answer is “skip it,” we say so. You can read the full policy on the Affiliate Disclosure page.
How Updates Work
We use the page’s “Last Updated” date to reflect meaningful editorial review. That may include replacing outdated recommendations, improving the explanation, or revising the verdict if the market changed.
What We Will Not Do
- Publish fake fully automated content just to fill search results.
- Recommend products we do not believe are strong options for the use case.
- Bury the answer under unnecessary fluff.
This policy will evolve as CaptainDad adds more content types, but the standard stays the same: be useful first.
